Though Vancouver sits on the shores of the Pacific Ocean and enjoys a Michelin-honoured world-class food scene influenced by a wide range of international cuisines, it still honours its frontier history with a love for great steakhouses and a range of fine restaurants offering this classic indulgence.
We are pleased to profile five of our favourites as inspiration for a steak lover’s next visit to Vancouver.
Gotham Steakhouse & Bar
Our neighbours at Gotham Steakhouse & Bar offer an unforgettable dining experience in one of the city’s most spectacular rooms. With soaring ceilings and luxurious décor which evokes the golden age of art deco, any visit to Gotham is sophisticated, elegant, and sure to live long in the memory.
Opened in 1999 and the winner of countless awards since, Gotham serves perfectly-prepared Canada Prime grade beef and fresh fish and seafood alongside top–shelf cocktails and an extensive wine cellar offering hundreds of choices to enhance any occasion.
Their opulent dining room offers tables to take centre stage and hidden corners for intimate occasions; all wrapped in rich textures and colours. The famous cocktail bar hosts a weekly schedule of live music to set the mood.
We always recommend Gotham Steakhouse as a must-visit during any stay at the St. Regis Vancouver and are proud to exclusive offer our guests a Gotham Steakhouse Dining Package.
Our must-try dish: the Gotham Steakhouse Porterhouse has been legendary for over 25 years and remains an unforgettable dining experience.
Hy’s Steakhouse & Cocktail Bar
When
the history of Canadian steakhouses is written, the legendary Hy’s Steakhouse & Cocktail Bar will be in the first paragraph, having defined the steakhouse experience for over 70 years. In Vancouver, Hy’s has been pleasing guests with Prime Grade steaks, cold martinis, and it’s trademark warm hospitality since 1962.
Located in the heart of the Financial District, Hy’s Vancouver has delighted multiple generations of Vancouverites with the theatre of tableside service and a menu which offers classic recipes prepared with care and respect.
And while walking through the doors is like being transported into a different era, Hy’s Steakhouse has remained at the forefront of Canadian steakhouse culture by carefully evolving its menus and décor to remain vibrant and relevant.
Our must try dish: Hy’s is famous for its tableside service, and no meal would be complete without their Caesar Salad, made from scratch at your table by their expert staff.
Black + Blue
Located on Alberni Street, Vancouver’s Rodeo Drive, Black + Blue brings a modern, high-energy twist to the classic steakhouse. The dining room emanates luxury and sophistication while their famous rooftop patio offer the perfect venue to enjoy Vancouver’s sunny season.
The signature of Black + Blue is their Himalayan salt dry aging meat locker which takes pride of place showcasing the slow and patient 28-to-45-day aging process which adds tenderness and complexity to every cut. They are also known for their range of Japanese A5 Wagyu and Japanese Kobe Beef, some of the rarest and most in-demand steaks in the world.
Our must try dish: Black + Blue elevates the classic Prime Rib dinner with Yorkshire Pudding, a red wine jus, and pomme purée for an unforgettable meal.
The Victor
Located on the rooftop of the Parq Casino complex in Vancouver’s Stadium District, The Victor proudly combines Pacific Northwest flavours and ingredients with classic steakhouse cuisine for an elegant experience which always feels like a celebration.
Victor’s unique spin on surf & turf leans heavily on bounty of the oceans and includes a sushi bar offering the freshest seafood superbly prepared. Victor also stands apart by offering a decadent Sunday Brunch Buffet including a carvery and signature brunch creations, with fresh-baked goods and desserts to round out the indulgence.
Our must try dish: the Victor Sushi Flight showcases their seafood and is a great accompaniment to a steak dinner.
Elisa
A relatively new kid on the block, having opened in Vancouver’s iconic Yaletown neighbourhood in 2018, Elisa has wasted little time in making its mark in the city. Cooking all their steaks on a wood-fired Grillworks Infierno grill, Elisa has been lauded for giving the same care and attention to the vegetables in entrées and sides as they do to the variety of premium cuts sourced from around the world.
The room itself is the epitome of understated elegance with an open kitchen and bespoke grill taking centre stage along with the glassed-in wine cellar containing 6.000 bottles. The signature timbered beams evoke the history of this former warehouse district. Multiple Michelin Awards are tribute to what the team behind Elisa has created.
Our must try dish: the Crispy Cauliflower with Chermoula and Sumac turns the humble cruciferous vegetable into something rich and rewarding with layered flavours and textures.
