While the walls of a 95-year old downtown hotel have many stories to tell about the characters who have wandered the halls and lived in its rooms, we’re going to use this blog to tell a few of the newer ones. That's only fitting really, given that most of the old walls inside the St. Regis Hotel were replaced during the extensive 18-month renovation process.
St. Regis Vancouver Olympics are in Full Swing
Seward Johnson Sculptures and Full Houses!
February 26th, 2010

There’s less than a week left in the 2010 Olympic Games and they seem to have gone by in a 100 percent capacity blur. While there have been a few glitches on the mountains, the first 12 days have gone off almost hitch-free downtown. The promised gridlock has not happened so our visitors and residents can get where they need to go whether it’s in one of the hundreds of extra taxis which seem to be on the roads or via the Canada Line and Skytrain light rail stations steps from our door which are packed but moving everyone smoothly around town. With the Paralympics set to start on March 12th, the energy level of the city will remain high.

To help get us into the Olympic and spirit, we recently installed two sport themed-sculptures by internationally renowned artist Seward Stewart in our hotel for the enjoyment of guests and passersby alike. The two sculptures, “
Anticipation” and “
Aprés-Ski,” capture skiers both before and after their trip up the hill. Cast from bronze, the life-sizes sculptures are painted to produce a magnetic, life-like result. Seward Johnson’s pieces have been publically installed at Embassies, major sports events and celebrations throughout the World and they attract attention wherever they are placed.

“It’s been very exciting to have these two pieces installed at the St. Regis Hotel during the Olympics, Paralympics and beyond,” said Jeremy Roncoroni, General Manager of the St. Regis Hotel. “They are perfectly in tune with the spirit of the Games and add to our existing art program. We’re excited to have hotel guests and the public at large come and enjoy these works while they are place until this summer.”

The sculptures are in place in the lobby of the St. Regis Hotel and are available for viewing and photos 7 days a week.

St. Regis Hotel Vancouver Wins Two Travelers' Choice® Awards
January 26th, 2010

Some email brings bad news, lots of it wastes your time but it’s a very rare email that makes your day. We got one of those rare emails this week—it arrived to let us know that the St. Regis Hotel Vancouver had won two TripAdvisor® Travelers' Choice® awards—we were named one of the “top 10 Hotels in Canada” in two separate categories: Best Hotel Values and Best Hotel Service. And, if that wasn’t enough affirmation for one week, we also got news the travel search engine Trivago.com placed the St. Regis in the “Top 1% of Hotels” in Vancouver, Canada and Worldwide based upon a cumulative score across a variety of online consumer review rankings!
Now in their 8th year, The Travelers' Choice® awards are based consumer reviews and opinions along with other content from across the web. So while someone else might have compiled the list, it was our guests who got us on the list and we want to take a moment to thank them all for taking the time to submit such kind reviews.

It’s only been slightly more than a year since we reopened after our renovation and this was our first look at the awards. Finishing #4 In the category of “Best Hotel Values in Canada” and #6 in the category of “Best Service in Canada” is quite outstanding and we’re proud of our staff who have all worked long and diligently to ensure that each and every guest is treated to the unique St. Regis brand of personal, yet unobtrusive service.
In commenting on the awards, General Manager Jeremy Roncoroni said: “They are a great reward and boost for the entire St. Regis team as we head into the very busy Olympic period. Our Games-time guests are already checking in and we’re ready for a solid month of sold-out rooms and 24-hour activity.”

Having our guests name us one of the 10 Best Hotel Values in Canada was affirmation that our unique inclusive pricing was something that our guests appreciated. With a full breakfast, in-room internet, bottled water, local calls and faxes and business centre access among the standard rate inclusions, mot of our guests are able to check in and check out without ever incurring an extra charge.

When we reopened, we described ourselves as just enough hotel, at just the right price, in just the most perfect location and now that we’ve won two Travelers' Choice® awards in our first year since renovation, it’s safe to say that our guests agree!
