Renovations begin at our sister property, the Plaza Hotel Kamloops

November 25th, 2011

The Plaza is set to reopen Spring 2012 after extensive upgrades and updates

The Plaza Hotel has been a Kamloops landmark and business anchor for over 80 years since opening in 1928. During that time, the Plaza Hotel has offered warm hospitality to all who passed through the doors, including Queen Elizabeth who was part of a civic reception on The Plaza’s Hotel’s original outdoor rooftop area as she passed through Kamloops on a tour of Canada.

This winter, The Plaza Hotel will be closed for six months while an extensive renovation of the rooms and public spaces is completed. The renovations will preserve the heritage character of the décor and building while upgrading rooms with modern amenities like flat-screen TVs and improved high-speed WiFi throughout.

The décor throughout the hotel will be completely refreshed in all hallways, meeting and event rooms and the popular Rocksalt restaurant. Guest rooms will be updated with new furnishing and fixtures and luxurious bedding with triple sheeting, pillow top mattresses and superb linens.

When The Plaza Hotel reopens, guests will be offered a range of convenient and money-saving complimentary amenities. Inspired by the renovations and rebirth of The Plaza Hotel’s sister property The St. Regis Hotel in Vancouver, the renovated Plaza Hotel will offer no-charge inclusions like high-speed WiFi throughout the hotel, free parking, free in-room bottled water, free phone calls, and 24-hour business centre access.

“We’ve been planning for this renovation for some time and we’re excited as we see the changes which are rapidly taking place,” said General Manager Shatha Al-Reihani. “We’re looking forward to surprising past guests and pleasing new ones with our completely renovated guest rooms and meeting facilities.”

The Plaza Hotel is scheduled to reopen April 1st and 2012 bookings are being accepted now. For more information on The Plaza Hotel or reserve, visit http://theplazahotel.ca/. To keep up with our renovations, follow us on Twitter @PlazaKamloops.

Goodbye and good luck to our friend Mishal

November 1st, 2011

One of the nicest things about at a smaller hotel like the ours is the sense of team which develops among our small staff, so when someone leaves it’s feels like a friend is moving away. Since he arrived at the hotel, Mishal Rijal has been a important and hard-working member of the St. Regis team as both our in-house massage practitioner and also as a tireless member of our housekeeping team.

Mishal is leaving the St. Regis Hotel to return to Montreal where he will pursue his dream of running his own massage clinic where he can focus on his passion for healing through massage. We’ll miss him, not the hard-working team member who took such pride but also the warm, caring person who wished the best for everyone around him.

On behalf of the whole St. Regis Hotel team, I’d like to thank Mishal for all his contributions to the St. Regis and best of luck with all his future endeavours.

Jeremy Roncoroni,
General Manager
